Guided Hikes With Shelter Dogs
We are looking for walkers and hikers to give our resident dogs some much-needed exercise and time out of the shelter. The Tails on Trails program has three hiking options for you:

Wednesday WALK: EASIEST difficulty. About a two mile walk on fairly flat terrain and most times on a paved surface. Generally these hikes are at the Cane River Park in Burnsville or the Greenway in Mars Hill.
Saturday and Sunday HIKES: MEDIUM difficulty. Unpaved two mile loop typically at the Mountain Heritage High School cross country trail. You can choose to complete one or two laps.
?The hike/walk leader will try to pair you with a dog you feel comfortable with, and will harness the dog for you. Come get some priceless canine affection, fresh air and exercise, and have a blast with our grateful dogs. It’s a fun way to meet new friends and will make a HUGE difference in the life of a shelter dog.
To join, simply complete a volunteer application on our website! Be sure to check out our Facebook page “Yancey County Humane Society Tails on Trails”.
